The swallowtails heralded the arrival of real Texas summer this week, big wings working their way through muggy air that heated up to just short of triple digits every afternoon. Tigers and pipevines, often in pairs, slurping from the lantana and fluttering around the trumpet vines and passiflora that have begun to burst open in thick clumps along the chain link that partitions most of our downzoned neighborhood.
You are a wonder, my friend. I admire your writing and your intellect very much. Makes me wish I was back in Austin, tagging along on one of your amazing rambles. Perhaps when we return.

I really enjoy your writing. You eloquently describe the same landscapes I move through. I often feel anger and hopelessness at the greedy “development” and destruction of natural landscapes in Austin. Yet, you remind me that the caracara is still here; the birds and butterflies are still finding habitat. Have you seen the jaguarundi? We have had numerous sightings on Hergotz Lane, but no photos.
The trombone guy was likely part of the Minor Mishap Marching Band. Their colors are yellow and black. They're loads of fun.

Another great read. I have to re-read at least twice to understand your exquisite intellect.
Loved the flip flop trombone player doing his part keeping Austin weird.
